About Canterbury Christ Church University

Student life in CCCU is thriving. There is a real sense of community and plenty of opportunities for students to get involved and make the most of the university experience. CCCU has over 70 societies ranging from arts and crafts to media, sports, culture and even food.

Through these societies, students can get actively involved – become part of a sports team or drama group and indulge their passions!

The student union can offer free advice on academic issues, money, housing or personal matters – whether it’s a significant problem you need support with or simply advice on where to get the best sandwich in town! They can also connect you with other students or groups to ensure you never need to feel alone.

Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) is a public university located in Canterbury, Kent, England. Founded as a Church of England college for teacher training in 1962, it was granted university status in 2005.

The university has around 15,000 students based at locations across Kent in Canterbury, Medway and Tunbridge Wells. Being Kent’s largest centre of higher education for public services – notably teacher training, health and social care and emergency services – the university also offers academic and professional programmes, including doctorates and research degrees in the arts, humanities and social and applied sciences.

CCCU is ranked UK TOP 20 for teaching staff qualifications. Nearly 90% of the research submitted to the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) was assessed as world-leading, internationally excellent or internationally recognised.

CCCU offers a portfolio of STEM courses, including engineering and medicine, and works closely with the STEM industry and businesses in the southeast.

In addition, CCCU is awarded a silver rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework, but also listed as UK TOP 20 for graduates in work.

Nearly two-thirds of Christ Church graduates are in highly skilled graduate-level employment 15 months after completing their studies, 9 percentage points higher than the national average.

“I have had the good fortune to be an exchange student at Canterbury Christ Church university and composed my Canterbury Tales: insightful and abundant modules, inspiring and supportive teachers, equipped library and accommodation, diverse but all generous friends, challenging but rewarding new experiences, and so on so forth. Though I have bid farewell to Canterbury, my Canterbury Tales have always been with me all the way”
