What their Students Say

I had a wonderful experience studying at Heriot-Watt. The University was one of the first universities to establish an actuarial course in the UK (or worldwide), and it’s taught by a group of prominent actuaries who are members of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA). It definitely prepared me for the world of work; projects are linked to the latest market trends/topics and I learned how to transfer theories into real-world industry solutions. My studies also really boosted my IFoA exam progress. Now I work for a leading insurance company, Athora, focused on the European markets and the great networking opportunities my degree provided me with will benefit my ongoing career.

The Brewing and Distilling programme at Heriot-Watt is renowned worldwide and I leaned from many excellent professors. It built my understanding of the whole industry and provided a very comprehensive knowledge of brewing and distilling. As a Distillery Manager at Shanghai Bacchus Group, I’m currently involved in the commissioning of a large new vodka/whisky distillery. My role is to provide technical support (across mashing, fermentation, and distillation) and management of almost everything. In addition, I also share my ideas with our whisky/vodka marketing teams and act as a consultant to the Board of the company.
