About University of Chester

The University of Chester is one of the oldest higher education providers in the UK, having recently celebrated its 183rd year of teaching.

Originally based on one campus in Chester, the University now offers more than 200+ single and combined honours programmes across several specialist sites in Chester, Shrewsbury, and Warrington.

Their courses have an emphasis on practical learning to enhance prospects via industry placements or overseas opportunities, ranging from five-weeks to one-year.

The University also offers state-of-the-art facilities including the Seaborne library, Chester Students’ Union (CSU), specialist laboratories, catering outlets, and our University-owned accommodation. There’s also an impressive choice of indoor and outdoor sports and leisure facilities, including a swimming pool, gym, tennis courts, running tracks, and two floodlit pitches.

One of eight world-famous British Heritage cities, Chester welcomes over eight million tourists each year. Ideally located in the North West of England, it is less than an hour from Manchester and Liverpool, just a two-hour direct train journey to London and close to both the beautiful Welsh coast and mountains.

Boasting the largest Roman amphitheater in Britain, the most complete city walls at almost 2 miles long, and a 1000-year-old Cathedral, Chester is packed full of 'must see' beauty and heritage. On the outskirts of the city, you’ll also find the world-famous Chester Zoo and Cheshire Oaks, the largest retail outlet in the UK.

Based on student votes, the city of Chester recently placed Top 20 for Best UK Student Cities (StudentCrowd, 2022).

What their Students Say

I came to Chester as a Chevening scholar, and I was very proud to be selected for this renowned and prestigious scholarship. I chose the University of Chester because the MSc Diabetes programme offers everything I need to advance in my future career. The academics, modules and teaching style all contribute to an engaging and informative programme which will benefit me when I return to Niger. The programme prompts myself, and fellow students, to think critically and in-depth. I also chose Chester because of the location. Chester is such a wonderful place to study and I love the calmness of the city. It really does feel like a second home. I settled in quickly and embraced the diverse nature of the University. Outside of lectures, I have really enjoyed taking part in the University’s Venture Programme, a series of events which have enabled me to develop a number of important career and entrepreneurial skills.

I chose the University of Chester because I was interested in the curriculum that my course offers and how it combines programming modules with optional cybersecurity modules, as well as a variety
of other interesting modules. When I first arrived in the UK, I found that the University offers much more than I expected. For example, they offer support services that provide students with guidance when completing academic assignments, as well as in-sessional English courses, which helped me to improve my writing skills. They also provide workshops for international students on how to cope with British culture and how to manage your budget. Another reason that influenced me to join the University of Chester was the city itself. Chester is a very beautiful city which is full of historical monuments, and the University is within walking distance from the city centre, which is full of things to do every day!
In my spare time, I enjoy participating in sports such as archery and rowing. I wanted to continue these hobbies at the University of Chester and luckily, the Students’ Union offer over 70+ sports and society groups in which international students can get involved in. Alongside this, the Students’ Union, has provided me with impressive opportunities to get involved in Elections and Representation. I am now the Student Voice Representative for my programme. Participating in these things has allowed me to develop my soft skills, as well as get involved with British culture.
