About University of Galway

Galway really is ‘a University city’. The campus is in the heart of the city centre, with all amenities on your doorstep and within walking distance. It is a vibrant place, with a year-long programme of cultural and sporting festivals. Did you know students make up 20% of the population in Galway? Our student community are an essential part of Galway life, and they add energy and colour to the city.

Founded in 1845, University of Galway is located in the West of Ireland, in Galway – the ‘City of the Tribes’. Uniquely located in a beautiful historic campus in the west coast of Ireland, on the edge of the Wild Atlantic Way coastline and only 2 hours drive from Dublin.

Galway is a place like no other. Set on the Wild Atlantic Way, on the broad sweep of Galway Bay, Galway is as distinctive as it is beautiful. From this position on the Atlantic edge of Europe, University of Galway has a proud history of reaching out and connecting with the world. Galway casually combines the energy of a young and diverse population, with the authenticity of a place steeped in history and tradition. We are renowned as a place where arts and culture are celebrated, reinterpreted and shared with the world.

What their Students Say

I decided to study in Ireland because it offers everything an internal student is looking for – academic excellence, safety, accessibility, diversity, tolerable weather, and student support.

Out of the few schools that offer this course, I chose University of Galway  because it offers a balanced student life. The students have the privilege of exploring their academic interests with the help of various student facilities while at the same time participating in a wide array of student societies. University of Galway is also among the top public research universities in Ireland and this was particularly an area I wanted to be immersed in. The vastness of their library collections and journals truly furthered my learning experience.

The best thing about the MSc Applied Multilingualism course is its flexibility. The course content and modules were diverse enough to cater to students and professionals of different backgrounds while still establishing a common ground for everyone. I particularly enjoyed the in-person class discussions as it was an avenue for everyone to share their own experiences and take on the class material.

The course I took is much relevant to my profession, Speech Therapy, and to the industry. There are a variety of career opportunities available in Ireland such as language policy maker, language consultant, second language teacher, and a speech-language therapist.

I genuinely enjoyed exploring the nature and sights of Galway with my new found friends. I met people from all walks of life which I believe is a once in a lifetime experience.

I liked how everything was accessible by foot and by bus. Each place we visited was a walking distance. I also felt safe roaming around the streets alone and with friends because everyone was friendly and lovely.

If you are hesitant to choose NUI Galway, don’t be. It is a choice I would make all over again and a choice I will never regret. You are bound to experience the world with them.
